SEO Review For Copyblogger

Copyblogger.com is a website about Copywriting and Content Marketing Strategies. One look at their blog and you know they live up and beyond to their name and reputation. I myself have visited this site quiet often to get tips on writing. I am very fascinated with copyblogger as a website. They manage to produce such fabulous content day in day out, all around the year.

I am sure you’re wondering as to why I have chosen copyblogger as my first choice for SEO review. Go on, read below.

This article looks at copyblogger blog from all the aspects of search engine optimization and a little bit of social media marketing. Let us study and learn how these guys get it right.

Search Engine Optimization review:

Title (Homepage): Copywriting and Content Marketing Strategies from Copyblogger

Description (Homepage): The world’s most trusted copywriting and content marketing resource.
The homepage description tag needs altering as the apostrophe has not been displayed appropriately. Search engines display 150-160 characters in the snippets (description in the SERPs). Copyblogger can add more text to their description. For the inner pages, description has been added to some pages while ignored in others. Overall, their description tag has not been used to its potential.

Keywords: None Specified.

Copyblogger either takes Google seriously or they are not much into SEO. Keywords, which are important for other search engines like Yahoo and Bing are missing. In fact, Keywords are not present throughout the site.

Meta Robots:

SEO Workers: Sometimes, if you are listed in DMOZ (ODP), the search engines will display snippets of text about your site taken from them instead of your description meta tag. You can force the search engine to ignore the ODP information by including a robots meta tag like this:

Image Optimization: Their image tag for every post contains “alt” attribute, but it is not optimized. The alt attribute contains the exact description of the image, not the keywords for the article. As there is just one image per post, there is nothing to worry about. Had there been 4-5 images taking up a good amount of space in a post, Copyblogger would have something to worry about.

Anchor Text Optimization: Anchor text optimization is what Copyblogger excels at. They have linked to each blog post with its respective title as anchor text. This is a very good practice indeed.

Breadcrumbs: Breadcrumbs are missing. Breadcrumbs are like a secondary navigational structure. There is no direct link to any blog post except from the home page. Once a post is old and becomes an inner page, its importance from search engines keeps on decreasing. A breadcrumb would insure a link to all the inner pages from the homepage at all times. Search engines would find it easy to find all the inner pages.

Heading Tag: Copyblogger has used the h1 tag for the title of their blog post. A good SEO practice again.

Sitemap: File not found in the standard location: www.copyblogger.com/sitemap.xml. So I do not know if the sitemap.xml exists or not.  If the sitemap.xml file does not exist for Copyblogger, You are missing out on getting your web pages found and indexed.

Great First Impression: When the site opens, you get a full view of the copyblogger logo and the latest article title.

If you have it, flaunt it: Currently, Copyblogger has 124, 029 subscribers and they flaunt it proudly. This number shows the popularity of copyblogger with the masses. Any visitor seeing this number will be visibly impressed and chances of them subscribing for copyblogger are very high.

Call to action words. “Join us” for Twitter is an example.

What Copyblogger Can Do Better:

I feel that the blog categories should be clearly visible on landing at a blog. Copyblogger categories- named resources are placed in lower end of the left sidebar. They almost look sidelined to me. If the left sidebar logo gets placed in the top header, the newsletter and twitter block can shift further up. The resources links will be more clearly visible.

Make space for ‘Recent Articles’. All the inner pages should have direct links to atleast 5 most recent articles.

SEO REPORT:

Copyblogger is perhaps not a big fan of search engine optimization or social media marketing. But thanks to the awesome articles and the number of backlinks from other blogs, copyblogger is ranking well for its niche keywords. Their content is their SEO and their marketing strategy.

Conclusion:

Content is King :) Way to go Copyblogger. But a little SEO will go a long way in increasing the traffic to your site. cheers.
