I liked some of your suggestions for the footer, such as rss, and about-us.

But for a ton of links to get more indexed pages? I don’t think so. I fail to see how this is a good practice. If anything you want to reduce the number of links on your page so that your efforts to sculpt page rank (and relevancy) to the right money pages has the most effect.

By having tons of links in your footer it makes it hard to set up your internal linking in a silo structure. On that matter, most people use categories in blogs in a way that wastes page rank and fails to get the most benefit.

However, i like some of your ideas that highlight the need to get a better user experience.

good read! We have been pushing nicely designed footers for awhile but I never really connected the dots the way you have here. Thanks for putting it together in a simple way to understand.
