The TITLE Tag :
The <TITLE> tag is a very important factor where search engines are concerned. The <TITLE> tag of your webpage is most appreciated by Google who gives it a lot of importance. The main function of the <TITLE> tag is telling the browser what text to display in the title bar.
When a user searches for a particular keyword, it is the title of the webpage that appears on the search results page and tells the user about your site in a few selected descriptive words. The <TITLE> tag is always placed below the <HEAD> tag and can be 40 – 60 characters long with spaces in between.
KEYWORDS Meta Tag :
Your keywords are the words that you feel your webpage should be ranked for. Let’s see how the tag looks :
<META NAME = “keywords” CONTENT = “web development, seo, search engine optimization, SE optimizer, seo tips” >
- Limit the keywords to 10 to 12 words.
- Do not repeat the keyword.
- Have different keywords for different webpages.
- Seperate each keyword with a coma.
It is being said that Google doesn’t pay as much attention to keywords as before. Maybe true, maybe not. But there are other search engines who do, So don’t ignore your keywords which can get you potential traffic and customers through other search engines.
Also Check,
DESCRIPTION Meta Tag :
When you do a search, you are presented with a long list of about 10 web addresses and some lines of introductory text. That text is what you enter in the Description tag. If you dont add the description tag, then the search engine will select some random data from your webpage. This data might not make as much sense as when you yourself enter the description per webpage.
Search engines index the description tag and many of them include the description tag in their results. Google is one of them. The description tag must be placed immediately after the <TITLE> tag. Let’s see how the description tag looks :
<META NAME = “description” CONTENT = ” Web design & SEO – Get free tips on optimizing your website. Read all about using metatags effectively for optimizing your webpages.” >
Some Tips :
- Your Title should be a small descriptive comment about that web page.
- Personalise this comment by adding more relevant data from the webpage, and this becomes your description tag.
