A content rich website is one that contains information in huge amount for people to read and use. It is, in fact one of the major deciding factors in getting a high ranking in the search engines. Search engine’s love content which is updated regularly and is relevant and useful to the readers.

In todays age, if the content provided in your website isn’t of good quality, you can very well see your rankings take a dip. The usual take is that, if the website is updated regularly, more is the probability that the search engine spider will visit your website. You can update your website with images, animation, graphics; but, the search engine is less concerned about that. All it wants to see is content – in short words. Meaningful, relevant, useful words, words that the search engine can see.

It is not always necessary to bulk your site with unnecessary content. If you are smart, you can have a relatively small number of pages which have the keywords placed in them in strategic positions; and watch your rankings go up. Even I used to get surprised sometimes when websites with comparatively less content rank higher then websites with hundreds of pages of content. But got over it as I understood the trick.

For organizations who are more focussed on manufacturing rather than the content,high rankings via content can be a tremendously difficult task to achieve. How many times will a steel manufacturing company update their content anyways? And what will they update? Content is King for news sites, blogs and Entertainment industry wesites. However, no matter what your business is, make sure that your content is relevant to that subject and give out as much in depth information as possible. In times, your rankings will not increase because of updation of content but because of good quality content.

Coming back, I agree it is very tough to compete with websites who have scores of pages, nicely filled with important keywords in them and enjoy high rankings. But, its not impossible at all. If you have good content to begin with, your visitors will keep coming back to you. Word of mouth is also a important factor in getting traffic. All you need is Good Content, important keywords, time and some patience.
